True Companion

Beautiful song, by Marc Cohn. Something I would put on my CD of love-songs to give to guests.

And most certainly belonging on my Wedding Blog, though I do neglect it so.

A New Website for the Fellas

Well, hello out there!

So, I have two websites I would like to share, that touch a particular audience many people do not focus on when speaking about weddings - the groom!

The groom is very important, and while I know a lot of wedding planning falls to the brides (and, okay, some of you might rail at the "inherent sexism" in this, but many women I know love to plan things like this, and not many men I know would feel the same. So, well, you play to your strengths), the grooms should have some say, too.

The first website is really sweet, for the most part, and full of good wisdom, advice, and a general sense of...honor? Chivalry? A time gone by? Whatever it is, I really like it. It's called The Art of Manliness, and you can reach it here. It's not strictly about weddings, but it does have some sweet articles about proposing, and dating, and best men speeches which are absolutely worth reading - even for the ladies! Some of the posts may seem really old-fashioned, like, "How to take care of your little lady," But honestly, in reading them, there is no lack of respect towards the wife - many of the articles are written by couples! - but there is a sense of honor towards your girlfriend/fiance/wife, which, well, I think the world could do with a little more of! So, yes, I highly recommend The Art of Manliness. It tells men it's okay to cry, and encourages a sense of respect and dignity towards women that isn't seen too much these days.

Second, a slightly different, but still nifty, website - Well Groomed, a blog for grooms, fashion, and snazzy gifts. It's more...trendy than The Art of Manliness, but it has some cool pics, and some great stories. You can check it out here.

So, that's it for the grooms today! Check out some of the posts on either of those sites. You might find something that really intrigues you, or at least that sparks some ideas. And that's what I'm here for!

Save the Date Magnets

I found a super-nifty site while looking for magnets for my parent's 25th anniversary - it's literally just called savethedatemagnet.com, but it is sooo excellent.

The magnets are pretty cheap - about $100, including shipping, for 75. And you can change the picture, and the font. And boy, do they have some super-cute fonts. You can also customize any color (text, background, etc) on the magnets.

Here are some of my favorite fonts (Alas, I couldn't copy them in all their glory, so you're just going to have to click this link and look them up!):

  • Jackie O
  • Mama Script
  • Passions Conflict (I mean, come on! "Passions Conflict!?" How could that be a wedding font? But it is. And it is so curly and pretty).
And now, some designs I liked!
